Tax Invoice Template

A flexible tax-invoice starting point; confirm the fields, rate and wording required in your jurisdiction.

Tax-invoice rules differ between GST and VAT systems. This template supplies the common mechanics — a tax-invoice title, unique number, editable registration details, itemized charges, subtotal, tax and total — without claiming that one format satisfies every jurisdiction.

The default 10% is only an editable example. Choose the currency, title and rate for the actual supply, and use a jurisdiction-specific template or official guidance for mandatory fields and special wording.

Start with the applicable tax system

Before issuing the document, establish whether the seller is registered, where the supply is treated as taking place, how each item is classified, and whether a special rule such as reverse charge, exemption or zero-rating applies.

A tax amount shown separately is useful, but it is not the whole compliance test. Registration identifiers, customer details, invoice timing, currency, per-rate totals and required phrases vary by authority.

Single-rate limitation

This generator applies one tax percentage to the taxable subtotal. It is best suited to invoices where every included line receives the same treatment.

For mixed rates, exemptions or partial taxability, use accounting software that calculates and displays each treatment correctly or prepare separate documents where that is permitted. A note beside a line does not change this tool’s tax calculation.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a tax invoice different from a normal invoice?

A tax invoice records the tax treatment required by a particular tax system. It commonly includes a tax-registration identifier, item and customer particulars, tax rate or treatment, and tax amount, but the exact requirements are jurisdiction-specific.

Which tax rate should I use?

Use the current rate for the exact supply and jurisdiction. Do not infer the rate from the template default; confirm the product or service classification and any reduced, zero, exempt or reverse-charge treatment.

Should I include tax if I am not registered?

Do not present or collect a tax you are not authorized to charge. Registration rules and exceptions vary, so verify your status with the relevant authority.

Can I use this for a reverse-charge supply?

Only after confirming that the specific reverse-charge rule applies and what wording and identifiers it requires. The tool can display a zero rate and an explanatory note, but it cannot determine eligibility.
